sun diego

This is a sculpture of a person holding up a solar cell, made with recycled chicken wire and recycled insulation foam. The solar cell charges a battery which is located in the base of the sculpture in order to power all kinds of appliances, everywhere.

The sculpture symbolises freedom. The World is more accessible to us than ever, resulting in us being both connected yet ironically disconnected from our community by the innumerable capabilities of technology. Now that so many of us can work remotely, we no longer need or desire to live on top of each other in the city, connected to the grid. The sculpture represents humankind reaching up to the future. Step by step and one by one we must take responsibility for where we’re going collectively.

This sculpture also represents humankind raising the symbolic trophy of achievement in the 21st century; our intelligence, combined with our natural instinct, is creating the technology to evolve and survive in a time of uncertainty. The sculpture acknowledges that sustainability is the future. It also highlights the increasing desire of individuals to be free and independent, epitomizing the inherent desire within all of us to get out of the city and head to nature, taking our worldly comforts with us.
